Carl Junction Coal Buckets Auction

Coal buckets painted by Carl Junction art students are now available to the public.
CARL JUNCTION, MO -- The highest bidders got to take home one of 12 coal buckets up for auction at the Carl Junction Community Center this afternoon.

The art projects were crafted by last year's 7th and 8th grade junior high students and were featured throughout Pittsburg's store fronts during the SEK Art Fest.

Money raised from the coal bucket sales will go to help fund more projects for the junior high art class.

"We thought it would be a good opportunity," Carl Junction Art Teacher Elizabeth Cosby said, "The kids had mentioned, can we do these certain projects... So how about we raise some money and they were willing to give back to the program by auctioning the buckets off."

"As parents, and grandparents, and the community as a whole, we need to support events like this because of the value added to our kids," Auction bidder Ernie Thompson said.

If you were unable to attend today's auction but would still like to support the art program, there are a few buckets that did not get sold. Contact Ms. Elizabeth Cosby at the Carl Junction Junior High School at (417) 649-7246.
