PITTSBURG, KS.--- Pittsburg elementary students are painting the town red. Students at St. Mary's Elementary School decorated the front of their school to look like a replica of Carney Smith Stadium. The goal is to show their support of Pittsburg State University as the football team gears up for their first home game of the season. The Pittsburg Chamber of Commerce organized the event and they say it teaches the kids an important lesson.
"Great way to get the kids involved in the community take ownership in the community," said Devin Gorman, Vice President of Pittsburg Chamber of Commerce.
Five different schools participated in the event, they will be recognized at the football game on Saturday.
