Brad's Beat MSSU State Music Festival

Missouri Southern State University host a state music festival for hundreds of area band students.
JOPLIN, MO.--- Hundreds of area band students are competing for the best in the state. Missouri Southern State University is hosting a state music festival. More than 25 bands are competing for a "1" score, which is the highest. They play 2 songs and then have to sight read a new piece of music from the judges. Students say you just have to check your fears at the door.

"It's stressful, some of the kids were shaking so bad it was crazy," said Hannah Ryan, Bass Drum.

"There were a couple of flubs here and there. I'm not going to say where cause the judge is in the room," said Dylan Turgeon, Trumpet.

On Thursday, choirs from the area will compete for the state award.
