CARTHAGE, MO.--- A friendly yearly competition wasn't delayed due to the cold weather. This is the fourth year for the Carthage Fire versus Police Department Bell Ringing Challenge. Each department is stationed at both entrances of the Carthage Wal-Mart. They are trying to raise the most money for the Carthage Salvation Army. Both departments are competitive, but both have a shared goal in mind, to help the less fortunate.
"I think it's just a fun way for the community, especially both departments who the day in and day out they keep us safe. It's something fun for the community to participate," said Lt. Julie Trapp, Carthage Salvation Army.
The fire department collected $509. The police department collected $333.
