JOPLIN, MO.--- It's a sweet holiday that's not on many calendars, but today is National Pie Day. Twyla Housh is the owner of Big R's in Joplin and she says it's a big day for her restaurant. On average, they make 30 pies a day. Their most popular include coconut cream and apple. Housh says they have to get up early to start baking.
"We usually get here at 5:30 in the morning. We're the only one that makes the cream pies. We have to get them in the case by 11. Doesn't' always work out," said Twyla Housh, Big R's Owner.
National Pie Day began back in 1986 to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Crisco.
