A chilling discovery empties out Wildcat Glades Park Saturday afternoon as officials begin a death investigation.

Police say two men noticed a body floating in Shoal Creek while they were fishing today. Newton County officials received the call around 3:30 p.m. Joplin Police, Newton County Sheriff's Deputies, and the Missouri State Highway Patrol all responded to the Wildcat Glades conservation area south of Joplin.

Authorities evacuated the park while they recovered the body from Shoal Creek.

Officials aren't releasing the name of the victim until they notify the family. But police say they do believe they know the identity, and they have confirmed the body is an adult female.

Investigators also say they don't believe this is a suspicious death.

Authorities are transporting the body to Springfield for an autopsy.
