Academy Sports and Outdoors gave the media a preview tour earlier today.
Academy will open for business in about 15 hours and representatives are expecting big crowds tomorrow morning at 8 AM.
Eight months after the tornado Academy Sports and Outdoors is opening its doors to the store.
"It's been a lot of hard work getting the store put back, but it's a great feeling," Academy Assistant Manager, Bill Braun says. "We're glad to be back to serve our customers."
Academy received heavy damage during the May 22nd tornado, but tomorrow that will only be a memory as employees prepare for hundreds to come out for opening day.
"Everybody's just asking when can we come to the store? There's just a lot of excitement for us to reopen," Braun says.
"Our biggest focus is getting back into the community and having our customers to have a place to shop," Academy Store Director Sony Castillo says.
The size and location of the store is the same, but customers will notice some changes.
One of the new features is the Digital Golf Simulator where you can practice your swing.
People can also test out their archery skills in the Archery Lane.
Academy was able to add about twenty new jobs to the new store.
Employees working at the store are a mix of those worked there before the tornado and new employees.
"We're just really excited to back to service our customers," Castillo says. "It's a beautiful store and I invite everyone to join us on Friday."
Academy will hold a three-day re-grand opening celebration February 10th through the 12th.
It will feature free giveaways, a fish tank, and autographs from a Harlem Globe Trotters.
