Joplin, MO -- As the third seed in the MIAA Tournament, Missouri Southern's baseball team earned home field advantage for their opening series against Northeastern State. However, that advantage didn't last long Saturday against the Riverhawks.

After taking the 1-0 lead early by way of a Nick Doughty home run, the Lions fell behind 3-1 and couldn't hit their way back into the game. The 4-2 loss means Missouri Southern has to win both of their games Sunday to advance to Kansas City.

Meanwhile the seventh seed Pittsburg State had a tough matchup against the seventh ranked team in the nation Central Missouri. The Gorillas made a statement in game one with a 11-3 win, but game two was totally different story as the Mules dominated 16-4. The deciding game is set for Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.

As for the Gorillas' softball team, their season came to an end in the second round of the MIAA Tournament against Truman 4-3. Pitt State finishes with a 28-22 record overall.
