Wyandotte (OK)- An Oklahoma bridge receives a new name in honor of an American hero.
This afternoon a bridge on Highway 60 was renamed the Corporal Eldon Ervin Memorial Bridge. Ervin was killed in Korea in 1950 trying to help his fellow soldiers escape while being attacked by enemy forces.
His remains were finally returned to the United States last year. Family members say it's nice to have him honored for his sacrifice, but he was never forgotten by them.
"I was only two when he died. Was killed, but to me he was alive and I have two boys that's in the early 40's and they said he was always alive to them, because we never quit talking about him. It's like he was living,” says Shirlene Bolin, Elvin’s sister.
Today also happens to be Corporal Eldon Ervin's birthday as well. He would have been 89 years old.
