Webb City Development Center Patriotic Celebration
WEBB CITY, MO.--- The Webb City Development Center holds a patriotic parade to honor America, and to celebrate their students understanding the true meaning of the 4th of July.
"They get out, they have the parade. They run, they walk, they enjoy it. It's just really a great feeling to be able to do this today," said Lisa Still, Webb City Development Center Director.
This week, students have made arts and craft projects to decorate the building in red, white, and blue. Students also wore festive July 4th costumes and held up American flags to show their patriotism. The pre-school primarily serves children with delays or disabilities. Development center faculty say they've enjoyed celebrating with their students and teaching them about American independence.
"We have so many family members who have a loved one somewhere maybe overseas, or currently serving in the military right here at home. And we just think that is wonderful , we appreciate them so much," said Still.
Heidi Hodges is a parent of one of the development center students. She says her oldest son is in the military, so she's glad her daughter can learn more about what it means to serve our country.
"She's having a great time. She enjoys all this activity it's for her because she gets to learn how to do social skills along with supporting America and doing the fun things that her classmates get to do," said Heidi Hodges Development Center Parent
Pre-school staff say July 4th is important to them, because freedom allows them to ensure their students receive the best education.
"It's because we have a free country that we can do what we do for the kids," said Still.
A cookout with hamburgers and hot dogs were also part of the development center patriotic celebration. Students say they usually look forward to fireworks and popsicles the most.
