Verizon Wireless COW Truck Parks in Carthage
By Brad Douglas
CARTHAGE, MO.--- Verizon Wireless has deployed a COW truck for the annual Marian Days celebration. COW stands for "Cell On Wheels" and is essentially a mobile cell phone tower. The network in Carthage is only setup to handle the regular population of 14,000 people. However 60,000 people are expected to be in town during the Vietnamese celebration.
"Typically, if you get too many customers in an area and you don't have enough cell site coverage or cell site capacity, people wouldn't be able to get through or the data service would be, you know, would have a little problem or struggle," said Travis Goad, Verizon.
Similar trucks were deployed in Joplin shortly after the tornado. It helped cell coverage for volunteers and news media that came to the area.
