PITTSBURG, KS.--- Pittsburg city leaders pave the way for a project to expand one of their parks. Tonight, they voted in favor of accepting a land donation from John Lock Senior of Columbus. The land is 2.6 acres and is located near the Highway 69 bypass, just south of Jaycee Park.

Lock says he doesn't need the property anymore, so he decided to donate it to the city. His wish was for city leaders to use the area for recreational purposes. The mayor says this will allow them to expand the park.

"We really feel like as people drive by that area of town, having this property and being able to do a little clean up and having an expansion of our current parks system would be beneifical to those driving by and those locally," said Michael Gray, Pittsburg Mayor.

Mayor Gray says they plan to clear out some trees on the land, but they don't plan to build any structures on it. No word yet on when the work will begin.
