Update: Missouri 2015 Budget
By Gretchen Bolander
MISSOURI--- Missouri's 2015 budget has passed the first hurdle at the state House. All 13 bills dealing with the spending plan have passed out of committee. They add up to $26.6 billion covering everything from social services and education to the highway patrol. Committee members have been crunching numbers since the session started, but the process began long before that.
"Start compiling all your information in July. The departments of state government make their reports to the office of administration by October 1st. We as a budget committee get those reports and start our work in January," said Rep. Tom Flanigan, Missouri District 127.
Missouri law requires the legislature to approve the budget and pass it on to the governor by May 6th.
