ARMA, KS--- The expansion of Highway 69 has been a popular discussion amongst southeast Kansans for a while now. A community open house was just held in which residents were presented the latest details on the Arma Connection. The Arma Connection Expressway includes six miles of Highway 69. It begins at K-47 and continues north to 680th avenue in Crawford County.

The existing two-lane highway is also being considered for a four-lane expansion upgrade. Kansas Department of Transportation officials are planning for it to tie directly into the section of US-69 north of Arma to Fort Scott.

"At this time, there's no money allocated for construction of the arma connection project. But, we will be acquiring right-of-way and we've been approved for funding the right-of-way acquisition for the Arma Connection Project," says James Dietzel, a K-DOT road design leader in southeast Kansas.

K-DOT is currently conducting research and preliminary planning for the purchase of property along the existing highway. The cost for the Arma Connection will be $23.5 million.
