The existing two-lane highway is also being considered for a four-lane expansion upgrade. Kansas Department of Transportation officials are planning for it to tie directly into the section of US-69 north of Arma to Fort Scott.
"At this time, there's no money allocated for construction of the arma connection project. But, we will be acquiring right-of-way and we've been approved for funding the right-of-way acquisition for the Arma Connection Project," says James Dietzel, a K-DOT road design leader in southeast Kansas.
K-DOT is currently conducting research and preliminary planning for the purchase of property along the existing highway. The cost for the Arma Connection will be $23.5 million.
