How the University of Missouri Extension services your community may be changing.
Officials with the MU Extension say in recent years funding has not kept up with inflation, which prompted a look into how the program functions. Officials believe a restructuring of the service will better enable them to connect with the communities they serve.
For example, some parts of counties in Southwest Missouri weren't receiving coverage from an MU Extension nutrition specialist. Under the new plan, that person would be assigned to areas of four or more counties, enlarging the area they cover. The MU Extension was founded in 1914 with the goal of translating university research into practical knowledge.
