JOPLIN, MO.--- A reading project has gone to the dogs at an area school. Students at Thomas Jefferson Independent Day School in Joplin are celebrating Reading Week with therapy dogs. The students read to the dogs to practice their reading skills. Teachers say the kids are less intimidated when they read to animals and it helps them improve their vocabulary.

"We keep reading and reading. It helps us do better. If we're really good at reading in our head, it can help us reading out loud," said Samantha Seto, Thomas Jefferson Student.

The therapy dogs visit various schools throughout the year and also senior centers to help with lowering blood pressure.
