JOPLIN, MO --- Local golfers tee'd off today to help find a cure for a deadly disease

The fourth annual Tee'd Off At Cancer Golf Tournament took place at Schifferdecker Park this morning.  72 golfers played in the tournament.

The goal of the event was to raise money for the American Cancer Society.  Chair committee member for Relay For Life Ryan Spriggs said the event today will raise about $5,000 for the American Cancer Society.

"Cancer's just a disease that doesn't have a cure," Spriggs said.  "There is a lot of people affected by it, I know everybody knows somebody that has cancer.  It's a terrible disease that just affects so many.  And I just feel it's a very important cause, to do my part to help raise funds for the research and the cure for the disease."

The Joplin and Webb City Relay For Life will take place next Saturday at Missouri Southern.  It starts at 6PM.  If you would like to sign up for the event, please visit relayforlife.org.
