NEOSHO, MO--- Students are beginning to take state MAP tests, (Missouri Assessment Program) but some students in Neosho will be taking a second test. The Smarter Balanced Assessment is a new state test that educators are expecting to see next year. This preliminary testing is designed to give teachers and students an idea of what the new test will contain.
"It gives our students an opportunity to see the kinds of questions that will be on the test. And it gives them kind of an opportunity to take the test, familiarize themselves with the test. But the scores on that test don't really count for anything," explains Dan Decker, superintendent of Neosho School District.
As of now, the results of the current MAP test are the only scores that students will be accountable for. Starting next year, students should expect to take the Smarter Balanced test.
