Senator McCaskill Stops in Joplin
By Gretchen Bolander
JOPLIN, MO.--- The lawmaker stopped in Joplin, Springfield and Kansas City, talking with businesses that benefit from the Export-Import Bank. The financial institution helps back the sale of U.S. goods in international markets, impacting local businesses like the American Ramp Company in Joplin. This fall, federal lawmakers must decide whether to reauthorize the bank's operations.
"The kind of competitive advantages that are absolutely necessary in a global economy. You're not going to get a local bank to backstop foreign receivables in Mexico or Bahrain or other countries," said Senator Claire McCaskill, Missouri.
Current congressional authorization for the Export-Import Bank is set to run out at the end of September.
