JOPLIN, MO--- Senator Blunt takes action in sending a letter to the U.S. Department of Agriculture in support of livestock disaster programs. The letter comes after the recent passage of President Obama's Farm Bill last week. It cites that many grazing livestock farmers are still recovering from the 2012 drought and they need to be made a top priority in the 2014 Farm Bill. Senator Blunt is a strong supporter of the Farm Bill, but is hoping its implemented quickly.

"I think the five-year farm bill is very good for Missouri's farming families who can now go to the banker and talk about what they'd like to do over the next five years with some sense of safety net they have if the weather and other things go wrong."

According to Senator Blunt's office, more than 1400 counties in 33 states were disaster areas due to the 2012 drought. Many are still struggling to rebuild their herds today.
