JOPLIN, Mo. - The simple purchase of a beanie can make a big difference for a local child battling cancer.
"Love Your Melon" is a nonprofit that partners with college campuses across the nation to sell beanie hats and other merchandise to support children with cancer.
For each hat sold, one is donated to a child battling cancer, and 50 percent of profits are given to cancer research initiatives.
Missouri Southern State University has a chapter on campus, and members are working to hand deliver hats to local children and throw them parties with food and games.
"And the goals of those events was to make a child feel special and make them feel like a super hero. So we deliver the hats which is pretty cool, but the biggest meaning was that we got to make them feel special and let them know that they're supported and cared about." said Haley Henry with "Love Your Melon" MSSU Crew Captain.
On September 28th they're putting on a bone marrow swab drive, in partnership with the "Be a Match" foundation.
You can come by the Billingsly Student Center on the MSSU campus to swab your cheek and be put on a bone marrow match registry.
