JOPLIN, MO.--- Tax season is right around the corner, with a few deadlines fast approaching. In order to be prepared for filing your tax return, you should have a valid ID card, social security card for you and your dependents, W2 form and 1099 form.

"January 31st, it's mandatory that you have the W2 and 1099s out in the mail," says Cleta Mills, H&R Bank Office Leader.

You also must bring forms to show income and expenses for businesses, rental homes or farms that you own.

"Be prepared to have all of your documents with you, and when you're being questioned, be honest," says Kristine McCaulley, Liberty Tax Service.

"Just because the IRS is slow this year because of the shutdown with the government for 16 days, they're not opening up on electronic filing til the 31st. But that doesn't mean that we cannot file the tax returns, because we can," says Mills.

There are many locations throughout the Four States that can assist you with your tax returns.
