PITTSBURG, KS.--- A local university honors its students who work on and off campus. Pittsburg State University hosts its annual Student Employee of the Year Recognition this afternoon. Hundreds of student workers answer the phones and provide important services to keep the university going. Businesses off-campus also benefit from student employees. This year's recipients say they're honored to be recognized for their work.

"I kind of just do it because it's fun and it's kind of what's expected from a student employee. So it's kind of nice to be recognized, it definitely is," said Tyler Dietzschold, Student Employee of the Year.

"PITSCO has helped me get my foot in the door with the accounting business and it's my first big real job, you could call it. So I'm just extremely honored," said Ashley Stein, Student Employee of the Year.

Campus officials say it would be hard to imagine the university without the students' help.
