PITTSBURG, KS.--- School bands from around the Four States get the chance to show off their musical talents in Pittsburg today. Today was the 40th Annual Pittsburg State University Jazz Festival. 66 school bands from Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma participated, each playing for roughly 30 minutes in front of judges. PSU Music Professor Bob Kehle says today's event isn't a competition, rather an opportunity for everyone to improve.

"They get a chance to kind of feel like "oh boy, that band, they play better than we do. I wonder how we can get a little better?" So it's just, it's great education because they really are learning to be critical listeners," said Bob Kehle, PSU Music Professor.

There will be an evening concert at the Memorial Auditorium starting at 7:30 tonight. The concert will feature the PSU Jazz Ensemble.
