Pittsburg Police Officers warn people about gas station skimmers.

- A skimmer is a reading device installed over an ATM slot. It collects information from your card, which criminals use to empty your bank account.  Officers say they have not found any skimmers at any gas stations in the Pittsburg area, but they have heard of some reported in Manhattan, Kansas. They say its important to be aware of your surroundings and take extra precautions.

"Tug on the device itself to see if its loose or appears loose and if it gets to the point where you have to enter the pin cover your hand to make sure there aren't any cameras near by that way your pin number remains secure and you know it hasn't been pirated and somebody wasn't actually video taping you putting that number in so they know what card number is associated with that pin number, says Ben Henderson, Pittsburg Police Department Lieutenant."

Henderson says if you  ever come across a skimmer contact your local police office.
