A firefighter from one southeast Kansas fire department helps out another local department.
Off-duty Pittsburg fireman Alex Stewart was on his way to Joplin earlier this week to do some Christmas shopping when he and his wife saw flames coming out of a house in Riverton. Without any of his gear, Stewart went into the burning home to check and see if anyone was inside while his wife called 911.
Stewart didn't find anyone inside but did rescue an animal in the house. He then helped the Galena Fire Department put out the blaze. Fire Chief Bill Hall thanked Stewart for his assistance and says he helped prevent the house from more damage, welcoming to help his department anytime.
