PITTSBURG, KS --- The Pittsburg Farmers Market had their opening day of the season today.

The farmers market is located just south of the Pittsburg Middle School.  There are 19 different vendors this year.

Some of the foods available are vegtables and fruits, baked goods, and hot food.  There is also a vendor that sells arts and crafts.  One local farmer says it's important to have a farmers market because people want fresh food.

"There's a big move on now, people want to fresh, local food," said Pittsburg farmer Ed Cook.  "Food where they know where it was grown, how it was grown, what was used on it."

Cook says the Pittsburg Farmers Market has been going on since 2001.  The farmers market will run every Saturday from 7:30AM-12:00PM until the end of October.
