A free summer meal program for kids is expanding in one Southeast Kansas town.
A total of eight sites will offer free meals to kids up to 18 years old in Parsons this year. The program is offered through Labette Health Hospital and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Organizers say with so many kids on free and reduced lunch in the Parsons school system, they want to make sure they don't go hungry with school letting out for the summer.
"Any child, no matter where they live, no matter, you know, there's no income distinction to it at all, they can walk up to a meal site and get a free meal,” says Elaine Hudson.
