NEVADA, MO.--- Through the Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter in Missouri, veterans from various parts of the Four States recognized what the courageous medal stands for. Nevada's chief of police also issued a proclamation saying the city is a purple heart supporter. Local veterans say it's important to publicly recognize those who fight for our freedom.

"We just feel like everybody ought to contribute to the welfare of the country, and we want to support those people that support the country," said Gene Payne, Military Veteran and Max Motor Employee.

Organizers decided to hold this event today in honor of the 70th anniversary of D-Day.
