Missouri Lawmakers Push for Vehicle Sales Tax Measure
By Gretchen Bolander
WEBB CITY, MO.--- With just three days left in Missouri's Legislative session, time is running out for bills not yet approved by lawmakers. That includes House Bill 1387, which would drop the sales tax on some used cars. The measure eliminates the tax on vehicles that are at least 10 years old. State Representative Charlie Davis of Webb City supports the bill, saying it would help out low income residents like single mothers.
"For them to go out and buy an older used car and then to have to pay the sales tax on it, sometimes the sales tax 5, 6, 7 hundred dollars could make the difference between 'I can afford the car and I can't afford the car," said Representative Charlie Davis, Missouri District 162.
HB1387 has gone through a public hearing, but has not yet seen a vote by members of the House.
