Missouri Lawmakers Address Military Election Bill
By Gretchen Bolander
JOPLIN, MO.--- Missouri lawmakers are already getting to work on a measure to help active duty military who are considering running for office. Senate Bill 580 would help those who are stationed out of state to not only file for candidacy by mail, but also to take part in the lottery for placement on the ballot. Right now, those not able to file in person fall to the bottom of the candidate list, a placement which some say hurts their chances at the ballot box.
"You send in your paperwork, you'll always be on the bottom of the list. So this is the bill that's going to address that. And for me chairing the Veterans Committee, that's an important bill for me to protect our veterans," said Representative Charlie Davis, Missouri District 162.
Representative Charlie Davis says the measure will be the first bill debated on the House floor this session.
