JOPLIN, Mo. - Southwest Missouri Democrats use pie and face paint to help keep their party energized in this post election period.
Today's gathering of Southwest Missouri Democrats in Joplin served as a fundraiser and a way for the party to stay united.
Along with a pie auction, there was also face painting and a diorama contest using peeps.
Southwest Missouri Democrats Executive Director Krista Stark says while it was a lot of fun, it's also a way to make sure the party keeps up momentum in between elections.
"Party building is a year-round activity, and we want Democrats in the Joplin area, and in our five county area that we service as southwest Missouri democrats to know that even though this is a very red area, there are many democrats here," explains SW Missouri Democrats Krista Stark.
Stark says the goal for the day was to raise around $2,000.
She says they also collected signatures on petitions opposing Missouri's right-to-work laws.
