Margie Vandeven removed from Board of Education

The Head Of Missouri's Department of Elementary and Secondary Education has been voted out of the position following weeks of controversy. The Missouri Board of Education removed Margie Vandeven as the Commissioner of Education in a five to three vote this morning.

Meanwhile, Tim Sumners of Joplin is suing over his appointment to that board in October and removal in November, and believes it was due to his public statements that he would not vote to remove Vandeven.

He expects Governor Eric Greitens to name a replacement who supports expanding charter schools in the state. Sumners was first replaced by a Springfield woman who has since resigned. Eric Teeman of Raytown, Missouri was appointed to the post this morning.
