JOPLIN, MO --- A local US Army soldier suprises family and friends by coming home early from overseas

20 year old Stephen Martin is from Carl Junction and is stationed in Germany.  He has been gone for a year and family wasn't expecting him to be back home until July 1st.

Martin said the army told him that he was going to be able to come home a few months ago and knew right away that he wanted it to be a surprise

"I haven't seem them in so long," Martin said.  "And I know they've been missing me.  And being able to come home and show, you know, let them know hey i'm back for a little while is really nice because I know they've been waiting."

"You just can not imagine unless you've been a mom or a grandma yourself.  Your heart just jumps out of your chest," said Martin's grandma Nancy Stephenson.

Martin plans to be home for 25 days before going back to Germany.  He hopes to come back home around christmas.  Martin says he still has two more years of service in Germany.
