Local Law Enforcement Prepare to Crack Down on Prom Night Drinking

MOUNT VERNON, MO.--- With prom and graduation season here, Missouri law enforcement want to make sure area youth are celebrating safe and sober. The Lawrence County Sheriff's Office will join other Missouri law enforcement agencies to crack down on drunk driving May 1st through the 12th. Consequences of drunk driving include jail time, loss of driver licenses, or being sentenced to use ignition interlocks. Offenders insurance rates also go up, other financial hits include attorney fees, court costs, lost time at work, and potential loss of job or job prospects. Between 2011 and 2013, 85 people were killed and 316 seriously injured in Missouri roadway crashes involving an impaired driver under the age of 21.
