LAMAR, MO.--- The Masonic Lodge in Lamar is providing parents with an extra sense of child protection. A program called MoCHIP, which is a child identification system for Missouri children, is designed to give families a measure of protection against the ever-increasing problem of missing and abducted children.

"We're getting more people involved from our local schools to our local counties, but we're just trying to get as many kids here as possible," said Ron Wood, Master Liberal Masonic Lodge.

Ron Wood is the Master of the Masonic Liberal Lodge. He says not only is the Missouri child identification program helpful if a child gets abducted by a stranger, but it's also helpful when one parent disappears with his or her child during a custody battle.

"Then the other parent has another tool of ammunition to get the DNA, the fingerprints, all the information there to the police for the Amber Alert," said Wood.

Microchips are not used in the program, it's a computer disc that provides various information to parents. The master of the Lamar Masonic Lodge tells us the CD will contain information like dental imprints, an updated photo, and other quick access information in case of an emergency.

"There's more and more children being abducted. Child pornography is on the rise. This is a ready information that police can put a run in their scanner from their computer with a CD," said Red Wilkinson, Master Lamar Moasonic Lodge.

As of today, about 20 children in the State of Missouri have been found with the use of MoCHIP.

"That number is kind of irrelevant. If we can save one child, we've done our job," said Wilkinson.

Wood says one of the most important pieces of the program is the DNA sample.

"So if some child does come up missing and is lost, the K-9 that the officers use does have a clean scent," said Wood.

The Lamar Freemason Lodge will hold the event on April 26th from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. This program is free of charge to every Missouri family who participates.
