Joplin TIF Commission Discuss Hope Valley Proposal
By Priscilla Mace
JOPLIN, MO.--- Joplin's Tax Increment Financing Commission gathers to talk about a proposal for the southern part of the city. The plans call to develop 200 acres of land in the Silver Creek Galleria area. If it passes, the site would become known as the Hope Valley area. The goal is over the next 23 years, to use sales tax money collected in that region and use it as an incentive for future growth. Plans for this project are just about business development, there's also a focus on conservation.
"That site specifically has a lot of wetland mitigation issues that need to be dealt with. So, what's really unique about this development opportunity is that out of the approximately 200 acres, 25 acres of that the developer has agreed through a permit with the core of engineers to develop with wildlife habitat," said Tony Robyn, Joplin Disaster Recovery Coordinator.
City officials say construction on the new Mercy Hospital Joplin is a big incentive to create a TIF District in that part of town. These plans are still preliminary and need to be approved before moving forward.
