JOPLIN, Mo. - The shooting happened inside the house at 2334 Zora just after 11 Sunday night. Captain Rusty Rives with the Joplin Police Department says 21-year-old Taven Williams was found outside the house dead, and another man, 19-year-old Paul Haney, had also been shot and is still in a Joplin hospital. His wounds are non life-threatening.
Jason Buller lives right down the street from the house owned by Haney where the shootings happened. He says his dog started barking and his wife told him she could hear yelling coming from outside their house. He describes what he saw what he went outside.
"There was a gentleman laying face down on the concrete here, so I went ahead and attended to him. I rolled him over and it was apparent he had a gunshot wound to the chest, so I started chest compressions while someone else called 911," explained neighborhood resident Jason Buller.
"As far as who got shot and who did the shooting, we know the two individuals that got shot, but that's about all we know at this point in the investigation," added Joplin Police Captain Rusty Rives.
As far as neighborhood residents are concerned, Rives thinks this is an isolated incident just between a few people, but Buller says that doesn't make the incident any less shocking.
"This is a very quiet neighborhood. I was surprising to see because it's really quiet," said Buller.
An autopsy was scheduled for Williams today in Kansas City. There's a prayer vigil scheduled for him Monday night at 8 in Cunningham Park.
