Joplin Police Prepare for Traffic Increase this Weekend
By Gretchen Bolander
JOPLIN, MO.--- While no roads will be closed, Joplin police warn the extra bicycles, motorcycles and dragsters will mean traffic congestion. That includes the start of the Svitak Freedom Ride Saturday morning near Missouri Southern. Sunday morning will also see more traffic when dozens of custom motorcycles hit South Range Line.
"That draws people's attention away from what they're supposed to be doing, which is driving, to looking at this different type of vehicle or a large number of whether it's motorcycles or bicycles," said Lt. Darren Gallup, Joplin Police Department.
Events start Friday night with street legal dragsters at the Joplin Trade Center parking lot. Saturday morning will see more than 300 bicyclists starting routes from Missouri Southern. The Geico Motorcycle Hot Bike Tour starts Saturday. That could mean high traffic early Sunday morning. For more information about the, click here.
