Joplin, Missouri -
JOPLIN, MO.--- The library was designated a "family place library" at a ribbon cutting on Tuesday. There are 370 family place libraries in the country. To receive the honor, the center must offer services for infants and toddlers to stimulate brain development. It must also provide services for new moms and low income families. Employees had to undergo training in New York to become designated.
"We just went to training in November of 2013, and we've sent two additional staff members since then, and it just has a really great focus. It just provides a really great focus on our community and our families," said Jeana Gockley, Children's Library.
The only other library with the designation in Missouri is located in St. Joseph.
