Shelter members are asking the public for donations of canned dog food. They only have a few cans left and the puppies rely on it for their health. The shelter goes through six cases of canned food a day. There are more than 300 animals at the shelter and many of them are puppies, which is unusual for this time of year.
"We just have an extraordinary amount of puppies. It's a very odd time of year for us to have this many puppies. So, I'm not quite sure what's that saying what's summer going to be like. But, we're desperately in need of the canned food," said Lysa Boston, shelter manager.
The shelter is also in need of all sizes of dog collars. If you would like to help the shelter, it is located at 140 East Emperor Lane in Joplin.
