JOPLIN, MO.--- Superintendent of Joplin Schools C.J. Huff, The good news is that we continue to hit our milestones.," said Dr. C.J. Huff, Superintendent of Joplin Schools.

Those milestones are making progress. School officials are giving the August 25th deadline a thumbs up for the new Joplin High School. There's still lots of work to do.

"The gym floors are going down. Currently, they are getting hard work laid for the gymnasium. There's still a lot of electrical work going on, but they are getting dropped ceilings in as well as new carpet. You know, the tile is getting installed as well as. You know, setting equipment in the cafeteria. So there's some very critical areas that are being focused on right now," said Dr. Huff.

Painting, the gym floor, and installing welding booths are just some of the things crews are working on.

"Construction workers, I can't say enough about the work they're doing over there. They've worked under some miserable conditions over the last year and a half. In particular to get this high school up and out of the ground and a roof on it, and get it ready for our kids," said Dr. Huff.

Jimmy Henderson is one of those crew members from Jenks, Oklahoma. He works six days a week for 10 hours a day, but says it's all worth it.

"To come and help out the Joplin community after they had all that hard times and they needed help on the job. And I figured it would be a good deal to come out here and help out the community. And help the kids get back into the school," said Jimmy Henderson, construction worker.

Some parts of the high school, like the gym, won't be completely done by August 25th but officials hope it's ready in time for basketball season. Students and officials are excited to get into their new home.
