JOPLIN, Mo. - A girl claims she is body-shamed after a Joplin High School teacher refers to her as "busty" and "plus-sized."
Kelsey Anderson , 17, says she was sent to the office for a dress code violation after being told by her teacher that "plus-sized women" need to shop at stores that sell plus-sized clothes. The teacher also told Anderson that "smaller busted women could get away with more than larger busted women."
Joplin High sent out a statement saying: "While we understand the public's interest in this matter, the district is unfortunately unable to comment on specific incidents regarding students and school personnel. The district does not consider comments by staff members about students' bodies appropriate.."
The attorney for Anderson has also sent out a statement: "It is sad that in this day and age when we teach children and young adults about the dangers of bullying and body shaming with laws to protect against bullying, that we have to worry about the adults in our children's lives being the ones to hurt them. Bullying and body shaming isn't something to take lightly."
Joplin High is currently investigating the incident.
