Joplin Fire Department now teaching firefighting classes

JOPLIN, Mo. - This is the first time the department has offered the class. Crowder and MSSU have taught the course in the past but the training has been dropped from the curriculum.

The class will last for 13 weeks and covers everything from the history of fire fighting to actually putting a fire out.

Joplin Fire Department Chief Jim Furgerson says they're excited to take on the course.

"We went ahead and picked up where they left off and we're hoping to produce a quality candidate for not only our department, but area departments as well," Fugerson explained.

The class will begin on July 10th at the Joplin Public Safety Training Center, which is at 5102 North Swede Lane in Joplin.

You must be 18 years old to register.

Total cost for the class is $825.
