JOPLIN, MO.--- Joplin Area Habitat for Humanity celebrates its 25th anniversary.

"The mission of Joplin Habitat is to build safe and affordable houses," said Scott Clayton, Executive Director Joplin Area Habitat for Humanity.

In the last three years, the organization has built 86 homes in the Joplin area. Leaders of the organization credit community members like Penny Amiet for continual support.

"I believe in donating, I believe that people should come in and shop and buy those items that maybe someone has discarded, but it might be a gem to somebody else," said Penny Amiet, Restore shopper.

Amiet is an avid "Restore" shopper because of what the store supports.

"Those proceeds that come from what the Restore sells allows us to build more Habitat houses. It's also an environmental mission as well. Items aren't discarded and good items that are still good find a home somewhere else," said Clayton.

For many Restore customers, it's another way to give back to the community while shopping for things they need themselves.

"A lot of times, only one percent of your money only goes to charitable operation, but here you know, it goes to a local community. It goes to building homes for those who are less fortunate or just can't make their means," said Amiet.
