Planning to tackle hazardous situations in the future is underway in Jasper and Newton County.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency requires a hazard management plan from local officials, showing that they're ready for disasters down the road. Jasper County Emergency Management Director Keith Stammer says the plan covers a wide range of potential issues.
"Such things as weather, and escape routes, hazard routes. What do we do in terms of police, fire, ambulance - do we have adequate coverage?" says Keith Stammer, with Jasper County Emergency Management.
Jasper and Newton Counties are splitting the bill with the Harry S. Truman Coordinating Council.
