The Jasper County Commission is getting ready to finalize the budget for 2018.
The proposed spending plan includes an increase for the election office to cover the costs of a primary and general election. Health insurance went up 50 dollars per employee per month, a cost the county will absorb. And the budget includes money for a new financial software system. Officials don't expect to have much carryover from the current year.
"This year, revenue is going to be pretty close to what we estimated but there's just not a whole lot of cushion in it at this time,” says Richard Webster Jr., Jasper Co. Auditor.
The proposed 2018 budget comes in at 42 million dollars, a total that includes the completion of the new juvenile center in Joplin.
