125 emergency responders participated in a Haz-Mat Technical training exercise. The exercise was hosted by the Southeast Kansas Homeland Regional Security Group.
Each person went through a series of stations to learn different aspects of disaster situations. Some of the stations
ncluded decontamination, structural collapse, and search and rescue.
City of Parsons Public Information Officer Kari West said these training sessions are important because you don't want to go into a disaster situation not knowing what to do.
"In a disaster, it's hurry up, hurry up, we have lots to do, it's time to get it done," West said. "And here we can sit back and ask the questions that truly need to be asked. And, and get some more hands on training. It's more of a refresher course for the folks that have been through disasters, and it's a great entry for those that are just getting into emergency management."
Fire departments and law enforcements from Pittsburg, Chanute, and Parsons were some who participated in today's training.
