Foster families needed in Oklahoma

MIAMI, Okla. - Those interested in becoming a caregiver for a child in need gathered at the First Assembly of God in Miami. The meeting focused on the process of becoming a foster parent and the need in the Sooner State. There are nearly 11,000 children in Oklahoma's foster care system.

Recruiters say it's a big responsibility but it's a chance to make a real difference in someone's life.

"We're hoping that foster families will also mentor the families that these children have come from," explained recruiter Andrea Weaver. "The goal when children come into custody is to reunite them with the families that they came from. So, we're wanting foster families to sort of bridge that gap."

Those interested in becoming a caregiver can call the Foster Parent Hotline at (800)376-9729. You can also reach out to the Oklahoma Department of Human Services by calling (866)612-2565.
