JOPLIN, MO.--- An educational program was held at the Public Safety Training Center in Joplin today. Its purpose is to educate first responders, hazmat teams, firefighters and other emergency teams on the latest information regarding ethanol safety. The four hour lecture helped participants gain current ethanol emergency response knowledge they can put to use immediately in the field.

"It requires us to change the way we think and act. The way we have handles hydrocarbon incidents or gasoline spills, or releases in the past. We have to change that thought process," said Bill Brobst, Contract Instructor for the Renewable Fuels Association.

The use of ethanol and ethanol-blended products increase each year, creating a higher risk of ethanol emergencies on highways and rail systems.
